1.Research on assistance for safe driving at a crossing by using short-distance wireless,

One third of traffic accidents are crossing collision. And 70% of them are occurred at the crossings with no signals. In order to prevent these accidents, we are researching on assistance for safe driving at a crossing by using short-distance wireless, which is low-cost and low-power, and a driver can be noticed that another vehicle is approaching to a crossing by using the communication between vehicles and roadside units. The experiment is shown as follows,


The experiment of the equipment located at the crossing is conducted, to control the whole network system between vehicles and roadside.

The experiment is conducted to examine whether the screen to alarm another vehicle is reaching to a crossing by connecting PC to the on-board device.

The experiment at a crossing

The experiment is conducted as Figure 1, where on-board device is ZigBee end device, the roadside unit is ZigBee router and ZigBee coordinator is located at a crossing.

In result, with about 100% of success rate alarm screen, which shows that vehicles or pedestrians are approaching, can be pop-up in PC which are connected to on-board device in the case of bicycles-vehicles, pedestrians-vehicles, vehicles-vehicles(40km/h,60km/h,80km/h). And the notice time from one vehicle to another vehicle is 156msec~210msec , which satisfies the requirement that system delay time and system process time should be below 400msec ,which is recommended in the case of assistance for safe driving at a crossing by using 700MHz by Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications.

2.Network simulation

By using network simulator, short-distance wireless can be simulated to estimate influence of buildings, delay of data, or rate of packet loss before conducting experiments. And estimation in the simulation is expected to coincident to the result of experiments by using vehicles. Moreover the simulation is utilized not only to road-vehicle communication, but also to various scenarios such as vehicle-vehicle communications. Actually, QualNet is used as follows,
